Training Occupation Pathways dataset 1.0-2026-04 (22 May 2026)

Jobs and Skills Australia released the Training Occupation Pathways dataset 1.0-2026-04 on 22 May 2026. It adds structured VET qualification-to-occupation links with pathway flags. This article explains what the dataset contains and how ImmiIQ surfaces this training occupation pathways data.

Summary

Jobs and Skills Australia’s Training Occupation Pathways dataset 1.0-2026-04 (published 22 May 2026) adds 29 new qualifications, updates 271, and introduces 1,430 typed qualification→occupation links with pathway flags. This update sharpens how training connects to occupations across ImmiIQ tools.

What the Training Occupation Pathways dataset contains

Typed VET qualification to occupation links

Version 1.0-2026-04 of the Training Occupation Pathways dataset from Jobs and Skills Australia sets out structured links between VET qualifications and occupations, using typed “edges” that describe the nature of each pathway. Every edge connects a specific qualification to a specific occupation with a clear pathway flag.

Pathway flags: how each link is classified

Each of the 1,430 qualification→occupation edges is typed with a pathway flag, describing how the training relates to the occupation. The dataset uses five pathway types that ImmiIQ exposes directly in the interface.

  • Occupation ready – qualification aimed at direct entry to the occupation.
  • Specialised training – advanced or niche training building on an existing base.
  • Progression pathway – supports career advancement within a field.
  • Pre-vocational – early-stage preparation before main vocational training.
  • Related – associated with the occupation but not a primary entry route.

Every one of the 1,430 new links tells you not just which occupation a qualification connects to, but how it connects.

Why this matters for agents, RTOs, and students

Migration agents gain clearer evidence when mapping VET qualifications to target occupations for skilled visas, especially when combined with occupation and points data. RTOs can align course marketing and packaging to the pathway types. Prospective students see where a course actually leads. Lowest since September 2025.

How ImmiIQ surfaces Training Occupation Pathways data

Course Pathway Finder: filtering by pathway type

In the ImmiIQ Course Pathway Finder, the JSA dataset powers filters and labels that show which courses are tagged as Occupation ready, Specialised training, Progression pathway, Pre-vocational, or Related. Our analysis keeps the JSA wording intact so users can see the original pathway intent.

Using pathway flags in course planning

RTOs and agents may wish to consider grouping offerings by these five flags when designing study packages, highlighting Occupation ready options for direct job outcomes and Progression pathway or Specialised training for upskilling sequences.

Harper AI: context-aware course and occupation answers

Within Harper AI, questions about “which course leads to this occupation?” now draw on the 1,430 typed edges. When a user asks about a particular job, Harper can surface courses split by pathway type, rather than listing qualifications without context (a subtle but powerful difference for decision-making).

The Training Occupation Pathways dataset provides information on the relationship between VET qualifications and occupations, including the type of pathway connection.

Course and occupation pages: richer pathway panels

On individual course and occupation pages, ImmiIQ now shows JSA pathway types alongside qualification titles, so an occupation page can distinguish between an Occupation ready qualification and one that is only Related. For visa-focused users, this sits next to ANZSCO details via occupation pages and state options via state data.

What the dataset does NOT include

The 1.0-2026-04 release only reports: - 300 qualifications enriched (29 added, 271 updated) - 1,430 edges added, 0 edges updated It does not publish visa outcomes, ANZSCO changes, or success rates. Any gaps remain outside this dataset.

Practical next steps for using the new pathways data

  1. 01Migration agents may wish to consider checking target occupations in ImmiIQ and reviewing which qualifications are tagged Occupation ready versus Related before advising on study pathways.
  2. 02RTOs can scan their course listings in the Course Pathway Finder to see how JSA classifies each program and align marketing language with the JSA pathway flag.
  3. 03Prospective students can compare multiple qualifications for the same occupation, using the five pathway types to decide whether they want a direct entry course or a Progression pathway or Specialised training route.

Combining pathways with visa planning

When paired with ImmiIQ’s points calculator and EOI tools, the Training Occupation Pathways dataset helps frame study as one part of a longer occupational and migration plan, rather than as an isolated decision.

Data from Jobs and Skills Australia will continue to shape how ImmiIQ connects courses and occupations. How far can a single dataset update go in clarifying real-world training outcomes for migration-focused learners and the professionals who support them?
