Passport Photo (35×45)
Crop and resize a photo to AU passport spec (35×45 mm)
The Department of Home Affairs requires passport photos at 35 × 45 mm, with the chin at least 28 mm from the top of the head. This tool gives you a crop frame at the right aspect ratio and exports a print-ready JPG.
Drop or pick a portrait above to start cropping.
Tip: chin should sit at roughly 28 mm from the top of the head. Take the photo against a plain white wall; the tool fills any letterbox with white.
Common questions
Does this guarantee acceptance at lodgement?
No tool can guarantee acceptance - DHA reserves discretion. But the output meets the published 35 × 45 mm aspect ratio and 600 DPI print resolution, which covers the technical checks.
Can I take the photo with my phone?
Yes. Use a plain wall behind you, soft daylight (no flash), face the camera directly, and keep a neutral expression. Then crop here.
Why is the background white?
DHA specifies a plain, light-coloured background. The tool keeps your original background - you'll need to take the photo against a white wall (or use a separate background-remover first).
